In days not long gone, the Boston home opener halted business and school life across the Red Sox Nation. Who had tickets dominated conversations for a couple of weeks before.
On the day – New England’s real first day of spring – the streets quieted. Radios and small TVs popped into sight in offices, and groups huddled round them. Students flooded Kenmore Square. They cadged tickets and returned with tales of seats scored and beers drunk.
Thursday, the biggest news about the Red Sox’s return: Brookline repriced their Beacon Street parking meters for Red Sox games from $1.50 per hour to $22 for four hours. And, Fenway’s management would soon sell fans mixed drinks anywhere in the stadium.
